Key Responsibilities

• Own architecture blueprint– build, govern and evolve architecture at an enterprise level connecting various application domains. Think beyond resilient distributed application to antifragile –self healing system-based approach not just application based. Protect business risks from security or system failures by defining appropriate design for failure parameters.

• Evaluate technologies to enable product roadmap - work closely with the Pickles Product practice to understand the business architecture and product roadmaps. Provide technology evaluation and implementation feasibility for upcoming Pickles digital product and technology roadmaps. The evaluation should align with Pickles existing architecture and engineering ecosystems. Influence and/or negotiate on technical feasibility and options with a variety of technical and non-technical audiences and stakeholders.

• Maintain technology ecosystem integrity - Working in collaboration with Development Centre of Excellence (DCOE), contribute to rules and standard operating procedures that will ensure architecture, engineering, data, and operations integrity is maintained on an ongoing basis. Relevant meta level documentation needs to be maintained describing how things work in principle and key dependencies.

• Support business cases – identify and maintain a runway of architecture initiatives that will support the functional and non-functional requirements. The backlog should complement domain driven design for the programmes via high level solution design (HLSD)

• Continuously evolve – through an understanding of tribe operation and new technology advancements, identify areas of refactoring to support continuous evolution of architecture and engineering frameworks. In collaboration with DCOE, appropriately govern the lifespan of technologies within the ecosystem.

• Identify opportunities – research innovative cutting-edge technologies in line with technology roadmap and identify ranged possibilities that will help transform the business into new digital business models.

• Identify relevant hypotheses and conduct POC/experiments where required. Identify strategies to embed in the mainstream technology ecosystem.

• Manage technology footprint – identify technology footprint technical dept, consolidate and streamline similar digital assets. Build a view of a connected application ecosystem for maximum reuse and return on engineering investment. Conquer complexity and redundancies in the environment with cost optimization as a key outcome.

• Provide technology consultancy – be able to explain and demystify complex scenarios to a wide range of audience (ride an architect elevator from penthouse to engine room), keeping in mind the constraints and objectives of each audience. Remove friction, collaborate, influence and advocate effectively to help achieve agreement on basic principles, values, directions, and goals

Key Experience, Skills and Education

• Bring to the role demonstrable enterprise level architecture design, guardrails, standards, and principles for digital transformation projects.

• Experience across a broad range of digital technologies relevant to Pickles business industry and sector.

• Can quickly understand the business context and problems, strategic drivers, and ways of working and use excellent communication and presentation skills to drive the technology conversation.

• Strong analytical and modelling skills (preferably role of architecture in domain driven design) which can be applied across a range of technical and business problems. Can articulate complex systems with high level models and how things work in principle.

• Highly skilled in working and building collaborative and effective relationships with a diverse range of stakeholders.

• Ability to display depth of knowledge around key technology areas such as Cloud, event driven microservices, omni channel platforms, product and platform orientations, customer, and user experience.

• Technical capability to be able to work closely with Architects and Developers to understand and review code and provide input to the design and configuration direction.

• Solid understanding and practical experience of the EA frameworks (TOGAF, Zachman) as well as cloud native architectures.

• Understand not only technology architecture, but also possess the business acumen and stakeholder
to integrate an evolving tech strategy into business capability as a whole.
